HAVANA INTIMATE, through the lens Evelyn Sosa
Published by Uncommon Beauty Gallery in 2019, it is the first and most comprehensive compilation of our award-winning Cuban photographer Evelyn Sosa. With a hardcover and over 170 fully illustrated pages, the book offers a full scope of Evelyn’s most renowned series, “Retrato Femenino (Women’s Portraits),” containing over 65 portraits accompanied by bilingual scholarly essays and artist’s statements in Spanish and English. This first edition is limited at 300 copies, print-signed by Evelyn.
Evelyn Sosa uniquely captures the beauty and power of women regardless of their skin tones, ages, mood, sexuality or body shapes. The intimate, sensual and always highly emotionally charged portraits of her friends as well as a few of Evelyn’s self portraits reveal the depth of the subjects’ gaze and their individual persona.

Grethel Morell Otero, a Cuban Curator and Art Advisor and a recognized authority for Cuban photography, wrote an essay putting in a sociological context the role of the new women generation of Cuban entrepreneurs and artists. She analyses Evelyn’s most iconic photos of Mariana, Ana Lyem and more that “represent something of a vanguard movement in contemporary artistic photography.”
