Alexandria Deters, born in 1992 in California, is a New York based artist. She recently graduated with a Master in American Fine and Decorative Art from the world renowned Sotheby’s Institute of Art in New York. Deters uses the medium of embroidery that she also sees as a form of meditation. She loves the repetitive stitching finding it very therapeutic. Deters practice is deeply rooted in her personal experience successfully fighting eating disorders and mental health issues. She specializes in portraits that reveal the beauty inherent in the vulnerability of sexuality expression. Her portraiture is based on photographs, often erotic, that the subjects take of themselves. Deters empowers the viewers to see the unique beauty in themselves as well as in all types of bodies and sexual expression.
